Strategic Plan
Since the fall of 2019, I have served as the co-lead for Composition, English 101. In this capacity, myself and M. Steinberg are responsible for a variety of variables, including ensuring that the syllabus is developed properly and that there is uniformity in the delivery of the syllabus by the instructors to the students. Additionally, the course lead participates in surveying the course as part of the General Education Review (which M. Steinberg and I did several years ago) as well as collecting data anytime it is our course’s turn to evaluate a cornerstone piece of writing, such as the Research Paper. The most recent time that data was collected from all the instructors teaching Composition 101 was during the Fall of 2023. This time, I crafted all the emails and reminders to faculty and M. Steinberg reviewed the data.
As part of the APC meeting with the Middle States Team this past March, I shared a narrative regarding the plan that my co-lead and I embarked on to further increase student success in MLA citation proficiency following the 2019 Research Paper evaluation. The narrative resonated with the team and as a result, I was asked to submit it in written form to be included in the team’s evidence. It was an honor to do so.
Since I am deeply interested in curriculum development, I continue to serve on the Academic Program Committee and just wrapped up two consecutive years as co-chair. In addition to considering any program changes/revisions, I chose to helm the sub-committee charged with updating the Curriculum Guide and have led the charge to see, once we have completed this endeavor, to update it every year. (The last time it was updated was 2017.) Also, I volunteered to attend the Mathways meetings and update my fellow APC members so that we were prepared to consider and understand a new developmental math course that would come before the committee (and it did this past year) to be approved for piloting. I continue to find my work with APC rewarding and will remain a member.
Since the faculty goal setting this year is related to the institution’s Strategic Plan, I would be remiss if I did not include that as part of my continual reevaluation of my own curriculum, I continue to incorporate more diversity into my assigned readings and as always, implement as much relevant technology (as it applies to both the writing process and critical thinking) as I can to engage my 21st century learners. This past year, I integrated the Flip video app as another form of media for students to engage in for Discussion Boards in both my Face to Face and online classes.
